Post-stroke Physiotherapy: Vital to recovery

Neurological rehabilitation is an important part of recovery after stroke. Physiotherapists play a key role in the multidisciplinary healthcare team while the patients are in the hospital and afterwards. The goal of Physiotherapy is to promote active recovery by retraining their healthy brain cells to control the affected body part/s and relearn the skills lost due to brain damage.

What is a Stroke?

Different areas of the brain are responsible for different functions. The symptoms of stroke depend on the area affected. Symptoms can be changes in sensation, movement, sight, speech, balance, and coordination.

Obesity and Cardiac Arrest in the young

A sudden cardiac arrest is the result of defective electrical activity of the heart. Patients may have little or no warning, and the disorder usually causes instantaneous death. A heart attack -- myocardial infarction -- typically is caused by clogged coronary arteries that reduce blood flow to the heart muscle.

Cholestrol and the heart

The common causes of high cholesterol are an unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, and smoking. Eating foods rich in saturated fats, trans fats, and easily digested carbohydrates boost LDL.
